Frequently asked questions

How can I arrange for my electricity meter to be moved?

If you require your electricity meter to be moved, we will need to send you a copy of our standard quote and information pack. To obtain a pack, or for further information, please call 08450 702703.

Will I need someone to come out and visit my site before I fill in an application form?

We can usually quote a job without sending someone out to you. When we have received your completed application we will assess your requirements to see if a site visit will be required.

Why do I need to send in a site location plan and meter positions?

We require a site location plan for new connections, upgrades, cable moves and non-standard meter moves. This is so that we can give you an accurate quotation for the correct property. You can obtain plans from several websites for a small fee. For example, you could try www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk or www.landregisteronline.gov.uk

You have asked me to provide load details in kVA, why can’t you give me this information?

We have to provide a quotation based on the information which you provide. Getting the load right means that your quotation will be accurate and you will get the supply you require. If you are unsure on your load requirements, please speak to your electrician or the manufacturer of the equipment you plan to install.

I have a service cable but no cut-out, how can I get a cut-out installed?

If you require a new cut-out you will need to complete an application form for a new connection.

How can I find out how much I can increase my supply to?

We can’t simply tell you how much ‘spare’ capacity you have. You will need to apply for an increase in load, where you will be asked to provide us with the total existing load and the additional load required. We will then tell you whether the existing supply can take the added load, or whether you will require an upgrade.

Where can I get my MPAN from?

Your MPAN can be found on your electricity bill. Alternatively, it can be obtained by calling 08456 013268.

How long will it take to have my work carried out?

The lifespan of a job can vary significantly depending on the type of enquiry. Small scale connections and service alterations usually take around eight weeks to completion. However, larger and more complex jobs can take longer. We can discuss this with you when we have received your completed application.

I own a shop with a flat above, and I would like the flat to have its own metered electricity supply. Why do I have to pay for a connection when there is already a supply to the shop?

The flat will require a separate supply from outside, since it does not have its own supply at present. To apply for a new connection, please complete our application form for domestic connections.

Who installs the electricity meter?

Your chosen supplier will install the electricity meter after they have been given the MPAN for the supply. The MPAN will be sent out to you after you have paid for your connection. Once you have received it you will need to forward it to your supplier in order for them to arrange for a meter to be installed.

I need the size of my tails increasing and a double pole isolator fitting. Can you do this for me?

You will need to contact your electricity supplier, and they will arrange to have this work carried out.
