Investment

We spend over £100 million a year in capital investment on our network.  Part of this is to replace worn out equipment, part to deal with increases in electriicity demand and part to help improve the quality of supply to our customers.

Across our region, we are spending:

  • £11.9 million to replace 452km of high voltage overhead line
  • £1.4 million to replace 30km of 11,000 volt underground line
  • £4 million to replace 96 outdoor substations
  • £10.9 million on vegetation management to prevent tree branches touching our lines

Here are a number of large projects we are investing in:

  • £3.4 million on a new substation at Seghill
  • £1.3 million to upgrade a transformer at Carville
  • £9.2 milliion to replace a substation at Norton
  • £2.5 million to establish a new substation at Birtley
  • £3.1 million to refurbish 11 km of 66,000 volt overhead line at Spennymoor
  • £5 million to replace a transformer at Scarborough
  • £1 million to install a new transformer at York University
  • £1.6 million to replace transformers and switchgear at Howarth
  • £4.1 million to replace transformers and switchgear at Staygate
  • £5.1 million to replace switchgear at Elland
  • £5.9 million to install four transformers at Kirkstall
  • £3.1 million to replace transformers, switchgear and cables at Beal
  • £4.8 million to install an additional transformer, switchgear and underground cable at Newport
  • £2.1 million to upgrade 132,000 volt cable at Skelton Grange
  • £4 million to replace a substation at Scunthorpe
