Wayleaves and consents

In order to provide you with your new connection or alteration to your existing electricity supply, it may be necessary for our new connections wayleave department to obtain the appropriate consents to allow the work to proceed.

In instances where we have to place any equipment on, under or across any land which is not adopted highway or owned by you, then we need to obtain the appropriate permissions from the relevant land owners or occupiers to install and maintain our equipment. These permissions are generally achieved by the landowners or occupiers completing documents known as Wayleave agreements or a Deed of Grant.

CE Electric UK has a team of in house wayleave officers who are specifically dedicated to new connections wayleave work.

Our quotation letter will refer to a “typical period between acceptance of terms and availability of connection”, but the time specified is given for guidance only. Before any work can take place, it may be necessary for us to obtain wayleaves and consents from owners or occupiers of land affected by the proposal together with any other consents or approvals that may be required.

Since the time associated with these procedures is largely outside our control, it is not possible to guarantee that the electrical connection can be made available in the time stated. CE Electric UK will not be liable for any delays in the provision of the connection as a result of delays in obtaining any wayleaves and consents.  So, in order to try to meet your required supply dates, it is important that we initiate the wayleave and consents process at the earliest opportunity.

Once you have accepted our terms and made a payment and it has been identified that wayleaves or consents are required, then in the majority of cases our wayleave officer will contact you to discuss the project requirements The wayleave officer will then be your point of contact throughout the wayleaves and consents process, and they will be available to discuss any aspect of this part of the process.

If our proposals mean that we have to place equipment on, under or across any property that you own and we consider that the land may be sold in whole or in part or that our equipment may be used to supply someone other than you, then we will need to obtain security for this apparatus. In these instances, it will be necessary for you to complete one or more of our standard forms of documentation such as a wayleave agreement, Deed of Grant, Lease or Transfer.

There will also be occasions when we need further permissions to comply with any appropriate legislation. These can include planning consents, archeological consents or consents associated with protected sites, buildings, animals and plants.

If we need any Wayleaves, Deeds or other permissions, these must be granted before we can start any work, and this can take time. If we're unable to negotiate and secure a third party Wayleave, we may apply to the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) for a necessary Wayleave, but this can be expensive, take a long time to resolve and should be regarded as a last resort.

Once we are satisfied that we have secured all the permissions, the scheme can be released to our Project Engineers to commence works on site.
