What information do we need from you? (Ind/Comm)

Plans

So that we can identify your property/development and give you an accurate quotation for the work, we'll need you to provide plans of the location including adjacent properties and streets and a site layout.

Boundary plan

Please provide a plan clearly showing the ownership and boundaries of your site. Where we can, we will design a cable route that is within the boundary of your land, avoiding the need for third party agreement. This can reduce legal costs and lead times required to complete the work. This information may be available from:

  • the Land Registry
  • your planning application
  • your property deeds
  • hand drawings on an existing plan
Meter position

Please make sure that your existing and proposed new meter positions are clearly marked on your site layout plan.

Load

We need to know the maximum power you require and details of any disturbing loads. Your load requirements need to be stated in kVA (Kilo Volt Amps).

Disturbing loads

Most enquiries are for non-disturbing loads. If your enquiry is for a building that contains a high number of motors or large motors for lifts, air conditioning plant, industrial machinery or electrical welding equipment, the load may be disturbing and we will need more information from you.

Non-disturbing loads

Previous practice has shown that certain relatively small motors can be connected without concern about flicker effects on the network. You will need to give details of the two largest motors to be connected, particularly Star Delta start motors and direction on line (DOL) motors. If you don't know this information, please refer to the manufacturer or the equipment installer. If available, please provide with your application copies of the data sheets for any motor that will be installed.

Existing MPAN

To help us identify your property, you'll need to provide the MPAN (Meter Point Administration Number). You can find this number on your electricity bill. If you don't know your MPAN, you can call the Meter Point Administration Service.

Our MPAS team can be contacted Monday to Friday (between 09:00 and 16:45) on:

NEDL 0845 6013268
YEDL 0845 3300889
Fax 0191 387 7388
Meter installation

Once you have a scheduled date for your connection to be made live, you can arrange an appointment with your electricity supplier to install the meters. Please note we cannot make these arrangements for you.

To register with your chosen electricity supplier, you'll need to quote a supply number (MPAN) for each electricity connection. We'll provide you with these after you accept our quotation.

We recommend that you register all supply numbers with your electricity supplier. Otherwise, your final electricity connection(s) may be delayed. Your electricity supplier will be responsible for installing the meter and isolator switch.

It is advisable that you appoint and sign a contract with an electricity supplier at least 28 days before the date your meter is due to be installed.
