Dangerous Incidents
Reporting a dangerous incident or occurrence.
Through the electricity distribution network, which consists of underground cables, overhead lines and substations, we distribute power to over 3.8 million premises safely and efficiently. However there are instances when our equipment can become damaged, either through vandalism, adverse weather, road traffic accidents or many other incidents. In these circumstances, it can become dangerous.
Please report any of the following to us urgently, and we will make the equipment safe:
- Damaged equipment
-
Overhead power cables that have been brought down to the ground, or are hanging low enough for members of the public or vehicles to come into contact with
-
Overhead cables that are twisted together and sparking
- Substations with broken doors or fences
-
Electricity manhole covers in the road or pavement that are broken or displaced and leave live equipment exposed
-
Electricity meters and equipment that are insecure and exposed to the public or the weather
-
Anything on our network that looks at all unsafe, regardless of how insignificant it may seem to you. Contacting us could prevent someone from being injured or even killed!
Please contact us on NEDL 0800 668877 or YEDL 0800 375675.
To help us locate the affected equipment we will ask you to provide as much detail as possible on the location. The postcode, if possible, would be best.
If there are any cables on or near the ground, please do not go near them and keep everyone clear too. They could still be alive and able to conduct electricity through dampness on the ground or metal objects near to them. It would be advisable to dial 999, and ask the police help keep passers by well clear.
Our "Danger of Death" signs mean what they say! Stay away and stay alive!
